A board-certified obstetrician and gynecologist has joined VCU Health Community Memorial Hospital. Kwadwo Baryeh, M.D., is trained in management of high-risk pregnancies and minimally invasive surgery. He has a special interest in urogynecology, so he manages incontinence and pelvic floor conditions, complimenting the existing women’s health and urology teams.

He puts his patients at ease and makes a conscious effort to listen to their needs.

“I want us to come to a decision with which the patient is comfortable and that makes medical sense,” Baryeh said.

Baryeh is originally from Ghana, West Africa and pronounces his last name as “Bye-yay.” He is fluent in Twi, a language only spoken in Ghana. At 17 years old, he came to the United States as a foreign exchange student and stayed to pursue his undergraduate degree at the University of California, Davis.

Baryeh attended Pennsylvania State University College of Medicine in Hershey, Pennsylvania, for his Doctor of Medicine degree. With a talent for teaching and an interest in learning the business side of running a medical practice, Baryeh later earned two master’s degrees in health care administration and business administration from the University of Maryland Global Campus in Adelphia, Maryland.

Baryeh is involved in several professional associations, including the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, American Association of Gynecologic Laparoscopists and the American Academy of Pelvic Surgery.

When he is away from work, Baryeh spends time with his wife and three children. He enjoys traveling, going on cruises and watching movies.

To make an appointment with Baryeh, call CMH Women’s Health at (434) 584-5567. He sees patients in the C.A.R.E. Building located at 1755 N. Mecklenburg Avenue in South Hill.
